Using Articles to Build Links
Most of us are aware that it’s important to your Search Engine Optimization strategy that you put a lot of effort into building links to your website. One old, yet very effective method to market your website or blog is to use articles for building links.
You may ask yourself how exactly is it possible to use articles for link building? The process, you will see is rather simple. You will also find that if done properly, article marketing can be a great, free method for building links to your website. I’ll also note that this is the basics of how I myself perform my article marketing.
These are the steps that I take when performing my link building article marketing;
- Choose just 1 subject for your Article. A product you sell, why customers use your service, a specific kind of dog that you like, etc. Try and be specific.
- Decide on which keywords will be used in the article. I like to choose 1 or 2 per article that I focus on. For instance “Building Links” or “Article Marketing”. I suggest 2 word phrases, but you might want to consider 3 or more if there’s a lot of competition for your keywords of choice.
- Write your article, 600 words minimum is what I recommend. I always suggest taking your time, ensuring that it’s well written, and that it offers the reader something of value. Maybe you teach them something, you discuss a free offer, or you answer a question that they might have. Either way, be sure that you’re offering some form of value. Remember, we’re trying to interest and entice these readers enough to visit our site or blog.
- Spin or Not. There is much discussion online about the negative effects of duplicate content. Is it in the best interest of the website owner to distribute a copy of their article all over the web? Who gets credit for the article? Some Article Marketers will spin (change it via software) the article and submit a unique one to each article directory. Others submit it unchanged and without much thought. Others yet will do as I do. I do not submit an article that I’ve posted on my own personal blog. I enjoy writing and so coming up with a fresh article isn’t all that difficult for me. I then spin it manually using the Jetspinner Syntax. I then run it through their built in article building service and download my articles. I highly, highly, highly suggest taking your time when spinning. It can singlehandedly undermine all of your efforts to use articles for building links if not done properly. Poorly written content, the kind auto-spinners produce, will not give you the desired results.
- Each Article directory gives you a resource box. This box is very important to your article marketing and link building efforts. You’re given a box to describe yourself, your service, or your product. It’s a magical place that allows you to add keyword rich anchor text backlinks to your website. Take your time and craft yourself a compelling, informative resource box and it will pay dividends. This resource box must be maintained if your article is republished on another website, blog, or newsletter. This is where the big benefits of using articles for building links comes are felt.
- Adding links within the body of the submitted article is usually not permitted by the article directory. A few do, most don’t. When possible to add a link whether it be in the body or the resource box, try to link deep, not just your main page. Link to a search engine optimized page for those keywords.
- Now, armed with your quality articles submit a unique one to each of the major article directories. A few popular ones include ezines.com – articledashboard.com – Article Alley. Just Google Article Directories and you’ll find a lot of places to submit. We hope to get an extensive list done up in the next few days to assist in this process of Article Marketing.
Now assuming you’ve followed the steps within our Using Articles for Building Links guide you should accumulate quiet a few links from this Free SEO Article Marketing method.

Lately I have been doing a lot of directory submissions to build up my backlinks. I write an article and then submit it to the following sites for approval: 1. Ezinearticles.com (constanly crawled by google) 2. Goarticles.com (huge site, lots of traffic) 3. Rysite.com (tweets articles + quick indexing) 4. Articlealley.com (easy to submit to) 5. buzzle.com (has a high PR and is very popular) By submitting articles to those sites, i have recieved a lot of traffic. Especially from rysite.com because i get traffic not only from my article, but they tweet it to a following based on your keyword and as a result I get traffic from twitter as well. Hope that helps!
